CHRONICLES / HALF MOON RISING Part 24
« Last post by Cyberfox277 on March 06, 2012, 12:08:33 pm »
***Later that night***

Steven opens the trunk of his rental, after taking a look around to see if anyone was in sight, and dumps the dead body, still wearing a Fairmont Hotel uniform, on the ground. He kicks it hard and grumbles angrily.

[Steven] How's that for payment, your stupid, greedy, incompetent fool!

Steven growls between kicks.

Ashley having suspected what Steven was up too, stood carefully within earshot of Steven, watching and listening to him. Ashley also locks away any pity she might be tempted to feel for the poor waiter Steven is kicking.

[Steven] Making me waste my time, stalling to get a better pay. Making me go to the wrong floor!

Steven grumbles indignantly with a final kick.

[Steven] She got away because of you!

Ashley sighs inaudibly. 'And now you'll be long in learning where that young one went,' she thinks to herself.

[Steven] It's not fair when I need it so much.

Just as he says that, the words reverberate on his brain over and over again. He looks down and realizes his hands are shaking. He puts his hands on his temples and shakes his head hard.

[Steven] Get a grip, you don't get any physical symptoms for it. It's all in the brain.

Steven says as he keeps shaking hard.

[Steven] It's all in the brain.

Ashley raises an eyebrow in surprise. Steven WAS addicted to Quickenings and just admitted it. Ashley has suspected it for a long time, but to have him flat out admit it... This was definitely a new one for the Watcher Chronicles.

Steven takes some deep breaths trying to calm himself, while he thinks he should get a strong Quickening, young Immortals just left him wanting for more. He begins to pull the body to the water so he can go look for some Immortal.

[Steven] I hope a shark eats you and you never wash up on shore, you incompetent fool. Ever since it's forbidden to whip the workers it's impossible to get a decent job done.

Steven grumbles while he drags the body.

Ashley just sighs once more inaudibly at that comment from Steven. Trust the **** like him to think you need to whip people to get a job done.

Steven throws the body in the water and straightens up just looking at it until it disappears.

[Steven] Now to get that Immortal.

Steven frowns thinking for a moment, then he smiles.

[Steven] Oh I know, where did I put it?

Steven looks for the paper in his pockets.

[Steven] That guy with the young kid, I followed him after he left her at the hotel, what was the name again?

Steven finally finds the paper and reads it with an evil smile on his lips.

[Steven] That's right, the Bower Agency up on Burrard Street, maybe I should pay him a visit.

Steven murmurs while he walks to his car.

[Steven] If I'm lucky he might even lead me to her and I'd kill two birds with one stone.

Steven chuckles softly as he amends.

[Steven] Or with one sword.

Ashley thinks, 'Great. Well, at least I've got something to note down. And the location of at least one more Immortal, for Joe to get someone on. I'll assume he doesn't already,' Ashley thinks to herself.

Steven is still laughing at his own joke while he starts the car and drives off.

CHRONICLES / Overdue Payment Part 2
« Last post by 22639 on March 04, 2012, 02:04:42 pm »
 Nikki: Me? Why me?

Nikki says into the phone looking a bit pale....as though she has just been picked to hang glide off of Mt. Everest or something.

Nikki: Come on....there's got to be someone else. Don't we have a list of people on call for situations like this one?

Nikki asks as she plops down in one of her dining room chairs. She places her elbow on the table and rests her forehead in her hand and shakes her head slowly...hoping that this is just a bad dream and she'll wake up and her day will be perfect once more.

Nikki: Everyone? You called them all?

Nikki asks...her brow furrowing. She can feel a headache coming on.

Nikki: How is it possible that out of 20 people not one is available tonight? I mean...damn. What are the odds?

Nikki slumps down in the chair.

Nikki: Ok....alright. Alright. I'll do it. But I just want you to know up front that I'm not exactly what you would call kid oriented.

Nikki says and lets out a big sigh.

Nikki: Ok. Tell what's her name I'll be there at 7.

Nikki says and hangs up the phone.

***3 hours later***

Nikki walks up to the door of the older girls' barracks. She can hear the sounds of 10 teenage girls living it up because their adult supervisor has already left and they have been chaperoneless for an hour.

Nikki: What in the hell have you gotten yourself into, Flynn?

Nikki says to herself as she walks up the front steps and reaches for the door knob.

Julia: Nu huh! He din't!

Julia exclaims.

Haley nods emphatically.

Emily: You're such a baby, Julia. Of course he did!

Emily rolls her eyes bored.

Haley: He did. I'm meeting him at Delta Iota Kappa tonight.

Madison is sitting in front of the front window and she sees Nikki walk up to the door.

Madison: Oh maaaan....you'll never guess who they sent to fill in for Cramer.

Madison says as she closes the curtain and gets to her feet.

Lauren looks up from her cell phone.

Lauren: Who did they send?

Madison: Miss Flynn.

Madison announces and rolls her eyes.

Julia smirks slightly.

Julia: Guess you're not going after all, Haley.

Haley: Are you kidding? This is gonna be even easier than with Cramer!

Haley grins.

Madison: I hope she doesn't plan on boring us to death with her horse stories. I hear enough of it when I'm down in the barn.

Madison grumbles and heads for the small kitchen at the back of the barracks.

Lauren: Yeah we should give her a night to remember. So she doesn't dream to volunteer again?

Lauren winks at her roommates

Haley: Wonder what made her volunteer to begin with. Never has before.

Haley says from her lofty older vantage point.

Emily: Damn, I want to stay home, I want to go to Facebook.

Emily grumbles unhappily.

Nikki takes a deep breath and opens the door. She steps across the threshold, feeling like a prisoner on death row stepping into the gas chamber.

Haley: So stay. You can keep HER busy.

Haley says softly to Emily.

Emily: Yeah but she'll want some company so goodbye Facebook.

Haley: Get her to agree to watch a movie or something. Hello, Facebook.

Haley retorts.

Emily pouts.

Nikki: Good evening ladies.

Nikki says as she closes the door behind her and looks at each of the girls that are downstairs. She counts 5 and wonders where the other 5 girls are.

Lauren shrugs as she looks down at the monitor of her cell phone as if to say "Fine. Whatever."

Nikki: Ok. That went well.

Nikki mumbles to herself. She walks through the room to the small bedroom off of the kitchen where the live in adult supervisor stayed when "babysitting" the girls.

Madison comes out of the kitchen and almost bumps into Nikki.

Madison: Sorry.

Madison mutters and skirts around Nikki.

Nikki: No problem.....Madison. Right?

Nikki says to the girl, recognizing her from one of the girls currently working with one of show jumper mares.

Julia: Uhg! I'm so HUNGRY!

Julia moans.

Madison shrugs.

Madison: Yeah.

Madison says simply, not really wanting to make conversation with the person who will be cramping everyone's style for the night.

Lauren: You're always hungry, you'll be fat soon and then the boys will run away from you.

Lauren snickers, like she'd care she'd get even more for herself.

Julia: I will not!

Julia shouts vehemently at Lauren.

Lauren: Will to.

Lauren sticks her tongue out.

Nikki nods and smiles warmly at the girl then turns and disappears into the kitchen and eventually into the small bedroom where she puts her overnight bag on the bed.

Julia: Will not! And you should speak for your self. Ms-can't-live-without-her-krispy-cream-doughnuts..

Julia retorts angrily.

Nikki closes her eyes and takes another deep breath then she opens her bag and takes out what she will need for the night.

Nikki: Great start Flynn. You can tell they just love you being here.

Nikki mumbles to herself as she grabs the paperback novel out of her bag and plops down on the bed. She props herself against the headboard with a pillow, turns on the light on the night stand and opens her book.

Lauren: Yeah, what about you? Miss Double cheese hamburgers?

Lauren teases Julia with a snicker.

Julia: Hey, at least burgers have got SOME nutritional value. Doughnuts, is just fat! Like you!

Julia sneers.

Madison carries the soda she got from the kitchen back over to where she was sitting earlier and sits back down. She sips at the soda as she watches the drama unfolding in front of her.

Lauren sticks her tongue out again.

Madison: Hey Lauren....don't stick it out unless you're gonna use it.

Madison calls out with a smirk.

Haley: Would have thought her pimp would have taught her that.

Haley mutters to Emily.

Madison giggles.

Lauren: Don't need to stick it out to use it.

Lauren shrugs.

Madison: Then, girlfriend....you're doing it wrong.

Madison says shaking her head.

Haley: Got that right!

Haley adds loud enough to be heard by the room, and laughs.

Madison giggles again.

Madison: Those frat boys are going to be disappointed.

Madison teases.

Lauren: Yeah, what do we do now?

Lauren whispers nodding in the direction Miss Flynn is.

Nikki settles back against the pillows as she turns the page of the book she's reading.

Haley: I don't know about the rest of us... but you could try using your tongue, Lauren.

Haley snickers.

Emily: You may not be fat but you're sure dumb, Lauren.

Emily sighs shaking her head, she got it all wrong.

Lauren: On her? No way! I like men.

Madison: Maybe she'll stay in the room all night and we can pretend she's not here.

Madison suggests, taking a sip of her soda.

Lauren opens her eyes wide at the suggestion.

Julia: Maybe you should bleach your hair. After all, guys like dumb blondes. Don't know so much about dumb, umm.. how many colors you got now?

Julia sneers.

Lauren: Better have 5 colors than have a color that looks like manure... you... you **** head!

Lauren wrinkles her nose at Julia, making a face.

Julia: ****!!

Julia shrieks and dives for Lauren.

Madison: Oh ****!

Madison mutters and glances at Haley.

Haley: Now's our chance. Come on, she'll be a while in separating them.

Haley murmurs to Madison.

Lauren squeaks and begins to pull Julia's hair as they roll on the floor.

Haley: We can even tell Flynn on our way out the back door.

Haley suggests.

Emily yawns bored, this was getting too common to be funny, so she shrugs and moves to the computer.

Madison nods and sets her soda bottle on the floor next to the chair. She gets up and hurries toward the back door.

Nikki hears the ruckus in the other room.

Nikki: Damn! Now what?

Haley walks quickly with Madison, and pauses in the kitchen.

Haley: Miss Flynn? Julia and Lauren are fighting.

Haley calls.

Nikki grumbles as she puts her book down, gets up and walks out of the bedroom. She goes through the kitchen and steps into the front room where she comes to a stop.

Nikki: Hey! What the f....

Haley: Quick, come on.

Haley says, grabbing Madison's hand and quietly going out the back door.

Nikki stops herself from finishing the word. She goes over to the girls and grabs the collar of the one on top and pulls her off of the other girl then lets go.

Nikki: Knock it off, ladies!

Nikki demands loudly and firmly.

Haley: Robbie's gonna pick me up at the end of the lane. You can either come with, or we'll drop you where ever.

Haley says to Madison.

Madison: Ok.

Madison says and follows Haley.

Julia: Take it back!

Julia screams, pulling back on Lauren's hair and scratching the hand that was wrapped around her hair.

Lauren: No I won't... **** head.

Lauren pulling harder, while she tries to bite Julia's arm.

Julia: You lying little freak!

Julia turns her nails towards Lauren's face, when she saw the other girl was trying to bite her.

Nikki hears the squeak of the back door hinges and realizes that someone has gone outside. Since it is past curfew she leaves the girls that are fighting and hurries out of the front door, skirting around the building. She stands with her hands on her hips.

Madison rounds the side of the building and comes face to face with Nikki. She comes to a sudden stop.

Once Nikki frees them, Lauren launches at Julia again and they roll on the floor again.

Nikki: Going somewhere, Madison?

Nikki says when Madison comes to a stop in front of her.

Madison: Ummmm.....

Madison looks back at Haley...unable to think of anything to say at the moment.

Haley: We're just going to a walk. It's a little noisy in there.

Haley says very nonchalant

Madison: Yeah. Reminds me too much of my last foster home.

Madison says using her past to make Nikki feel sorry for her.

Nikki: Well.....I can't very well stop the fight and keep you two from running off at the same time, now can I? And you know that you're not supposed to be out after 7.....right? You've both been here long enough to know the rules.

Nikki says, scoldingly.

Nikki: Now both of you....back inside. Go.

Nikki says shewing them toward the back door they had come out of.

Haley: Whatever.

Haley says with a roll of her eyes, and turns heading towards the back door, after all, there was still time. Robbie had promised to wait all night, if he had too.

Madison: Yeah. Right. Sure.

Madison grumbles and turns around. She glances at Haley and gives a little shrug as if to say....well we tried. Then she heads for the back door of the barracks.

Nikki watches the girls walk to the back door then turns and goes back inside through the front door.

Julia: I'm gonna kill you, you ****!! Take that back!

Julia screams at Lauren.

Lauren: No way!

Lauren yells back at Julia.

Julia: NOW!

Julia continues her scream and manages to roll the two of them so she was on top and had the leverage over Lauren.

Lauren: NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lauren yells trying to turn them around so she stays on top.

Nikki goes into the kitchen and gets 2 large glasses of water and walks back out to the front room. She walks up to the two girls that are fighting and throws the cold water on them.

Nikki: I SAID KNOCK IT OFF!!

Nikki yells.

Lauren gasps when she gets the cold water all over her, and tries to find out who did it through the water in her eyes.

Madison walks back through the kitchen and leans against the doorway that leads into the main room and watches the chaos.

Haley: Well, at least this proves entertaining.

Haley mutters to Madison.

Julia falls off Lauren at the shock of the water.

Julia: Who did that?!

Julia demands angrily.

Madison: Better than Two and a Half Men.

Madison giggles.

Nikki steps closer to the girls and stands erect.

Nikki: I did. Got a problem with that?

Nikki says almost daring one of them to retaliate.

Julia: Oh.

Julia grumbles.

Nikki: Didn't think so.

Nikki says, relaxing just a little.

Nikki: Now.....are you two finished acting like animals? Male animals at that?

Nikki asks and hands the two empty glasses to Emily because she is the closest and says, take these into the kitchen, please," then returns her attention to the two girls.

Nikki: Or do you want me to borrow the boys' boxing gloves and the two of you box it out in the ring?

Nikki says, giving the girls a choice.

Emily looks up surprised at Nikki's request, who did she think she was? Her maid? She puts the two glasses on the floor and goes back to what she was doing in the computer.

Nikki folds her arms across her chest as she waits for the girls to answer.

Lauren: She started it.

Lauren grumbles as she gets to her feet, then she looks down at her clothes, looked like she had to change them.

Nikki: I don't care who started it. I'M finishing it.

Nikki says adamantly

Julia glares at Lauren, what come off does she get. She's the one who started it!!

Nikki: Now go upstairs and clean yourselves up and I don't want to hear you two going at it up there either. Got it?

Nikki looks at first Julia then at Lauren then at each of the other girls.

Nikki: I have no intention of playing referee at the Friday Night Fights all night.

Nikki says firmly.

Julia: Hmph.

Julia snorts and turns and goes to the stairs.

Lauren shrugs as she moves to the stairs, when she's sure Nikki can't see her, she sticks her tongue out at her, then climbs the stairs.

Madison: There she goes again with that tongue. Must be the busiest tongue in the west.

Madison says to Haley.

Haley giggles.

Haley: Yeah, well, she doesn't use it for the RIGHT thing.

Nikki: Now.....

Nikki says and puts her hands back on her hips as she looks around the room.

Nikki: Since the rest of you decided to just standby and watch and not do anything to stop it.....you get to clean up this mess.

Nikki looks at her watch.

Emily: You must be out of your mind.

Emily grumbles without looking away from the monitor.

Nikki: You have 2 hours until lights out so I suggest you get to it.

Nikki says and looks at each girl before walking off and heading back to the bedroom to retrieve her book. It is obvious that she'll have to read in the main room to keep the girls from doing more damage to each other and the barracks.

Haley: Yeah, right.,

Haley says.

Haley: Come on.

Haley says with a nudge to Madison, turning to head to the rec room.

Madison shrugs and joins Haley. She reaches down and picks up the two glasses that Emily had set down on the floor and heads for the kitchen to put them in the sink.

Nikki gets her book and, on the way back through the kitchen, stops and grabs the broom and mop from the broom closet and carries them into the main room. She walks up to Emily and hands her the mop then hands the broom to Haley.

Emily doesn't turn from the computer to get anything, she was in the middle of something a lot more interesting than that.

Madison comes back from the kitchen and starts picking up the furniture that had been knocked over during the fight.

Haley moves to help Madison with the furniture.

Nikki sees that Emily isn't going to take the mop so she walks around to the back of the table...bends down and unplugs the computer from the wall outlet. Then she walks back and stands next to Emily, holding the mop out to her.

Emily glares at Nikki for a moment, straightens her back and moves to the stairs without a comment, her nose high up in the air.

Nikki: This is going well.

Nikki mumbles to herself as she walks over to Madison and hands her the mop.

Nikki: Would you mind since Emily doesn't seem to want to cooperate?

Madison looks around and sees that she and Haley are the only 2 who have stayed downstairs so she shrugs and takes the mop from Nikki.

Nikki: Thank you, Madison.

Nikki says and heads up the stairs.

Haley: Well, this is fun. What a GREAT Friday Night.

Haley says sarcastically to herself.

Madison: You know.....we could sneak out now while she's upstairs.

Madison suggests to Haley.

Haley: Yeah, and she'll be after us instantly. We'd never make it to Robbie. We're better off waiting until she shoos us all to bed. Which...

Haley glances a clock on the wall.

Haley: Will be in less than an hour. Look, it's 8:15 already.

Madison: Yeah. You're probably right.

Madison says with a shrug and proceeds to mop up the water on the floor.

Nikki 's wheels of her brain are turning overtime as she tries to come up with a plan to solve her problem before it gets too far out of control. By the time she gets to the top of the stairs she thinks she might have one. She walks up to the door to the room the girls sleep in.

Julia: You think, Haley's gonna make it?

Julia asks, looking towards Emily and Lauren

Lauren: I hope so, that should teach her.

Lauren nods hopefully.

Emily: I hope she gets in trouble with the board also, who does she think she is? Turning the computer like that? One of my fosters used to do the same thing, hated her guts.

Emily grumbles angrily as she lays down on her bed.

Julia: Haley, so better take notes of the party... maybe she'll wait to skip out until after bedtime? Then we can go too.

Julia says hopefully.

Lauren: Yeah, that works. Maybe if we take our shoes out she won't hear us go downstairs?

Lauren asks, planning to dance with the most good looking guy at the party.

Nikki listens at the door for a few minutes then walks into the room.

Nikki: I need a volunteer.

Nikki says looking around the room then she focuses in on Emily.

Julia just rolls her eyes at the sound of Nikki's voice and turns her back to Nikki.

Nikki: No one?

Nikki asks looking at everyone.

Nikki: It's a good thing.

Nikki says with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.

Emily sighs as she moves on her pillow trying to get a better position and ignoring Nikki completely.

Lauren: Damn, I think I broke a nail.

Lauren grumbles studying her fingernails.

Nikki sighs and grabs a chair that is sitting next to one of the empty beds and drags it to the center ofthe room. She straddles the seat and sits on the chair backwards, resting her arms on the back of the chair.

Julia: Here's my file if you want to use it.

Julia offers it to Lauren.

Nikki: Ok....come on. This is getting ridiculous

Nikki says and looks at each girl.

Lauren: Yeah, I would. Thanks Julia.

Lauren says as she gets the file and starts filing her nails.

Nikki: Look....I get it, Ok? You don't want me here. Now whether or not it's because you just plain don't like me or if it's because you just don't want adult supervision I haven't figured out yet.

Nikki says, still looking at each of the girls.

Nikki: I doubt it's the first reason because I have never done anything to make you dislike me. And when I have worked with you girls I never got the feeling that you didn't like me. So my money's on the last option.

Nikki says and stops to see if she has said anything to elicit a response.

Madison finishes straightening up the main room and carries the mop into the kitchen and sets it in the mop bucket in the broom closet. She gets a soda out of the fridge and heads upstairs to see what is happening.

Nikki: I wish you guys would at least acknowledge that I'm talking to you. I know you can hear me.

Nikki says feeling a bit frustrated.

Emily: We don't need supervision, we're not babies. And where was supervision when we were abused at all those stupid foster homes?

Emily grumbles angrily, wishing she'd go away and left them alone.

Nikki nods her head understandingly and swivels around to look at Emily.

Haley sighs and looks longingly at the door, but trusts her instincts that say to wait. Following Madison, she gets herself a coke and goes up stairs, wondering what got Nikki so busy.

Nikki: I understand that but in order for me to provide this place for you guys to live and give you the opportunity to change your life into something better there are some regulations I had to implement. And one of those was that each dorm has an on site adult to make sure that nobody gets hurt or that they don't accidentally burn the place down.

Nikki explains.

Haley hears Nikki's last words and thinks to herself, 'Now that's something I haven't tried before. Burning a place down.'

Nikki: Unfortunately it's the way life is. If you want to do something and get the bureaucrats to pay for it....you have to jump through a few hoops....live by their rules. I don't like it anymore than you guys do. But look what you have because of it. Besides....nobody forced you to come here. It was all voluntary.

Nikki says and looks around at each girl in an attempt to see if she is getting through to them.

Julia: Like I was gonna stay with my dad, who pimped me out.

Julia mutters to herself.

Nikki: You could have just hit the streets like some of you did.

Nikki says matter of factually

Lauren: Yeah, I did, why do you think I'm staying at this... place?

Lauren says still looking down at her nails while she polishes them.

Nikki: You refer to the ranch like you hate it here.

Nikki says and quirks an eyebrow curiously.

Lauren: Hmm, it's not so bad.

Lauren shrugs.

Nikki: Lauren....you've been with us 2 years now. How come this is the first I've heard that you are unhappy here?

Haley: The Ranch itself isn't bad. But, ****! We're treated by the rest of the supers like we're 8. 9pm bed time, every night of the week. No going out, EVER. No life, PERIOD.

Haley says speaking up.

Lauren: Yeah, when I wasn't here I went to bed at what time I wanted, they treat us like babies.

Lauren complains

Emily: Yeah, like today, it's Friday night, can we stay up for another hour, no absolutely not, rules are rules.

Emily grumbles trying to imitate her supervisor.

Nikki: Ok. Let me address Lauren's statement first.

Nikki says and looks at Lauren.

Nikki: True. You went to bed whenever you wanted but you also didn't get up early and go to school.

Nikki points out.

Haley: It's Friday.

Haley puts in.

Lauren: Ah, come on, no one needs 9 hours of sleep.

Lauren points out.

Haley: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, none of it makes a damn difference. It's TO BED at 9 o'clock. Normal teenagers, get to be out later on Friday's and Saturday's at least.

Haley spits out.

Nikki: Because you guys are now attending school....and have shown a desire to make good grades so you can graduate and get your diplomas....it is imperative that you get enough rest and eat decent meals. Believe it or not....if you try and do it with little or no sleep....your body will rebel and you'll end up getting sick and you won't be able to retain what you learn because you are too tired.

Nikki explains.

Lauren: Fine. Whatever.

Lauren wonders why she even bothered to say something, she should have figured she'd only get that as usual and she wouldn't listen.

Nikki looks over at Haley and asks, "and since when are you guys "normal" teenagers?" She makes quotation marks in the air.

Nikki: You have a problem listening to someone else's side of things besides your own, Lauren?

Nikki asks looking back at Lauren.

Lauren: It's you who never listen to anyone's side but your own. Every time we try to say something you give us that crap.

Lauren shrugs.

Nikki: If I weren't listening to you how would I know what you said and be able to answer you?

Nikki asks, quirking an eyebrow curiously

Emily: Yeah, I swear it's like a record.

Emily nods with a deep sigh.

Nikki: Fine.

Nikki says getting out of the chair and moving it back to where she got it.

Nikki: If that's the way you want to play it....then we'll play it that way. If you are all so god dammed unhappy here....if Nua Tosu hasn't offered you opportunities you might never had had otherwise....then I'll shut it down and you can go back to the lives you came here to get away from. Is that what you want?

Nikki asks before turning to walk out of the room.

Haley: No. We want more a chance to be normal. THAT'S why we're here.

Haley says flatly.

Madison: Like she said....since when are we normal?

Madison says and crosses her legs on her bed.

Haley: Oh God. Take that stick out of your ass. Of course we're not normal and never will be. But we want to be. At least I do.

Haley retorts angrily to Madison

Julia: You done with my nail file?

Julia asks looking over at Lauren.

Lauren: Yes, thanks Julia.

Lauren nods giving the nail file back to Julia.

Nikki: I don't believe you really want that, Haley. You want to know why?

Nikki asks from the door.

Haley: No. But I'm sure you're going to tell me.

Haley says, leaning up against one of the supports in the room.

Nikki shrugs and shakes her head.

Nikki: Nope. I don't like to talk to people who don't want to listen. I have better things to do with my time and better ways to use my energy.

Nikki says with a shrug.

Nikki: Anyone else want to dig the knife deeper in my back? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Nikki says and looks around at the girls.

Haley: Wanna know what we want? We just want things to lighten up a bit. Here, in the dorms. At least on the weekends.

Haley states.

Nikki folds her arms across her chest.

Nikki: Do you remember what I said earlier about how in life....if you want something from somebody you have to be willing to reciprocate?

Nikki asks and leans against the door jam.

Lauren: Yeah, I did it all the time, but then I was getting paid for it.

Lauren giggles.

Madison: You must have gone broke with the way you misuse your tongue, Lauren.

Madison teases.

Julia: And you still don't know what to you use your tongue for?

Julia laughs.

Lauren: I can use it any way I want to.

Lauren shrugs, then shakes her head, like she didn't know how to use her tongue for THAT.

Nikki sighs and shakes her head. She is not getting through to these girls at all and is seriously considering a "career" change.

Madison: Like I said.....you must have gone broke. The guys I know won't pay for it if you do it wrong.

Madison says and lays back against her pillows and folds her hands behind her head, ****ily.

Lauren: Fine. Whatever.

Lauren shrugs again, like she would argue about it in front of the dragon lady.

Madison: Fine. Whatever.

Madison mimics Lauren and giggles.

Julia: Fine. Whatever.

Julia says adding her mimic.

Nikki: I give up. You guys win. But you'll soon learn that sometimes when you win....you really lose.

Nikki says and pushes herself away from the door jam.

Nikki: Just don't kill each other or burn the place down.

Nikki says and turns to leave the room....disappointed that she wasn't able to get through to the girls.

Nikki: I'll be downstairs if anyone needs me which I know they probably won't.

Nikki says and walks out of the room. She goes downstairs, gets her book off of the table where she left it and heads for the bedroom.

GENERAL CHIT CHAT / MARY SUES
« Last post by 22639 on March 03, 2012, 08:03:14 am »
I found this article on the Internet and thought it was worth sharing.
Mary Sues

Mary Sue (.n)- (Classic definition) Someone who defines her self as the most beautiful, most powerful, most intelligent, most loved in every way, and is more or less perfect yet somehow manages to be perfectly modest so everyone loves her and she would do no wrong. This type of character is the type that does nothing more than attribute to her own qualities and make posts centered around them and herself.

WHY WE DON'T ALLOW MARY SUES:

  • Mary Sues slow down the plot.
  • Mary Sues scare off other potential players.
  • Mary Sues tend to post aimlessly.
  • Mary Sues glorify themselves.
  • Mary Sues are extremely annoying,
  • Mary Sue posts generally have no point.
  • Mary Sues tend to want all the attention.
  • Mary Sues seem to have no weaknesses.
  • Mary Sues are generally perfect and therefore boring.
  • Mary Sues make RPGs slowly and painfully die!

TYPES OF MARY SUES:

Aside from the "classic" form of Mary Sue, several other varieties exist. All are equally repugnant. Below are descriptions of Mary in her various incarnations. Keep in mind that while characters with flaws and interesting, well-developed histories and personalities will undoubtedly resemble these descriptions to a limited extent, what makes a Mary a Mary is her absolute specialness and uniqueness in regard to whatever trait is being described... in other words her "most-ness."

1. Classic Mary Sue

This is the first characterization brought to mind when we think of Mary Sue. This character is often the most beautiful/handsome, funniest, friendliest, smartest, most athletic, wealthiest, most psychically/magically gifted, most beloved, strongest, most heroic, most virtuous, sexiest, and best dressed character in the entire game. Classic Mary Sue has no faults, and she makes no mistakes. She can do anything (even if she's never attempted it before) and end up doing it better than anyone else. She has a host of abilities that are very unlikely for someone with her experience or place in life. She often comes into very superior abilities in the middle of the game, with no preamble and often even surprised by them herself. She is extremely insightful and often has trouble distinguishing between character and player knowledge.

2. Tragic Mary Sue

This Mary Sue is subtler, and is the pitfall of some writers who, in a genuine attempt to avoid the Classic Mary Sue, have heaped way too many tragedies onto their characters (she is referred to in some circles as the "Anti-Sue"). The Tragic Mary Sue is viewed as a pity-beggar, an attention-getter. She usually comes from a very terrible and lamentable existence--usually as a slave, an abused servant, a prostitute, or some other lifestyle most of us couldn't imagine being in. At every turn of her life, she has met with one ill fortune after another--from torture, ****, poverty, becoming an orphan, having the only person who ever loved her murdered... you get the idea. Sometimes this Mary is hideously ugly or strangely deformed. Other times, if the author just can't seem to actually let go of the compulsion to be classic, Tragic Mary Sue will still be, underneath all her dirt and heartbreak, very beautiful, if only the right person would reach out to her. This Mary Sue begs for pity. She is designed to tug on the heartstrings of the other characters so that they will approach her, work really hard to pull her out of her jaded, reclusive existence, and elevate her to a higher status. She fulfills the need of her creators to have other people "save" them and make them feel loved.

3. Belligerent Mary Sue

Just like all great warrior princesses, the Belligerent Mary Sue is tougher that anyone else, she has unmatched (and often unexplained) fighting skills, and she has an extreme "won't take crap from anyone," attitude. She can immediately defeat any adversary single handed. She's often well muscled and athletic, but even if she is petite, she can still inexplicably beat the crap out of any other character; she never loses any in-game encounter she is a part of. She has a tough exterior, she flaunts authority, she doesn't make friends easily, and she doesn't care about anyone, knowing that she can only depend on herself. Other characters must really, really work hard to befriend her. This Mary Sue is the epitome of overly done independence. She is our need to lash out against social convention and the ties that bind us.

4. "Floozy" Mary Sue

Like her Classic cousin, this Mary Sue has a wide range of superior skills, but they are specific to the ability to attract the opposite sex. Her physical description exudes sensuality, and she is never without her ample bosom, full and pouting lips, entrancing catlike eyes and long lashes, red mane of tousled curls, or voluptuous figure and hip-swaying walk. This Mary Sue can seduce any man, she gets anything she wants just by flirting, and all other woman generally hate her. Her morals are very loose, and she may skirt the border of being considered an "evil" character. This Mary Sue attempts to attract the attention of every male character in the game, and her player is often very disappointed if she doesn't.

5. Copy Cat Mary Sue

Copy Cat Mary is most easily spotted in fandom games, especially by those who know the fandom very well. She is basically the description, history, personality, and destiny of one of the well-known cannon characters, only with a different name and some minor adjustments. She's also usually related to an already famous character in a way that would be impossible, based on the canon material. In Harry Potter games, she might be Harry's long lost twin sister who also bears a scar on her forehead from the night Voldemort killed their parents. In Star Wars, she's Luke and Leia's younger sibling who was hidden away from the Emperor and trained on a remote planet by one of the last Jedi Masters, destined to lead the Rebellion after Darth Vader killed his mentor. Duplicating a Cannon Character or closely relating your character to one is often viewed, at best, as unimaginative, and at worst, as an attempt to make your character more important than she would be if relying on her own merit.

6. Transplant Mary Sue

Transplant Mary is similar to Copy Cat Mary in that she is some modification of a well-known canon character from a particular fandom. The difference is that the character is passed off as an original character in either an original game she has no business being in or in a non-crossover, canon game of a completely different fandom. For example, some players attempt to use "Buffy Summers" from the BTVS fandom in anything from Star Trek to Twilight games. While some legitimately original characters might be inspired by a favorite canon character, Transplants have several characteristics that are very obviously taken straight from the canon character. Most commonly, these characteristics include: Name, Physical Description, Personality, Background (often modified to fit the game), Occupation, Family Members, and Celebrity "Play By" Image. One or two similarities, alone, does not mark a character as a Transplant Sue, but in combination, several of these "borrowed" traits can be very obvious to someone familiar with the canon character. A sub-species of the Transplant Mary is the Transplant Celebrity Mary Sue, for whom many traits are clearly based on those of a popular celebrity or are a Hodge-podge of television and movie characters the celebrity has portrayed.

7. Inside Mary Sue

Some Mary Sues are "inside jobs," meaning a player (usually the game's owner) creates a new Race or Species for use as PCs and gives a detailed description, including all of the things the race can do and all of the things they definitely cannot. Then, the creator turns around and immediately introduces a new character of that race who happens to be the exception to the rules. The logical progression is that the creator is not satisfied by any of the currently existing races and, therefore, needs the added specialness of his/her character being an entirely new species. Because they created the species, they're now presented with the danger that a new player will create a new character of the same species, thus, reducing the original character's specialness. The solution is for the creator to "build in" a rule for the species that, as it happens, doesn't apply to their character for some strange and rare reason (and which would be unlikely to have occurred to other subsequent characters created from the same species). This preserves the character's "uniqueness" no matter how many new characters are created of the same species. The character is now special because it is of a previously non-existent species (and the only member of that species upon entrance into the game) and because it is, remarkably, also an exception to its own species' characteristics. This two-fold specialness actually makes it a Double-Layered Mary Sue--it's a Mary Sue with a fail-safe, backup system.

CHRONICLES / HALF MOON RISING Part 23
« Last post by Cyberfox277 on March 01, 2012, 08:24:01 am »
***Three and a half hours later***

Wanda Meyer sighs unhappily while she drives to yet another house, while she thinks why it's always her to get the difficult clients. They've been north and south, east and west and so far she couldn't find a house that would please both her clients. When the older woman didn't have an objection, the younger one would find something. Wanda is beginning to consider if they're really interested in buying a house or only want to take a look at them. If it wasn't that Chicago solicitor's call she'd have already said something, but she'd worked with him before and knows he's for real. She sighs again as she turns to the avenue where the house is, hoping they'd like this one, she was running out of houses to show them.

[Wanda] We're almost there.

Wanda tells the older woman on her side in the car.

[Wanda] I think you'll like this one.

Wanda says, praying she's going to leave the car at least and bother to see it inside, it was really irritating when she did that. She didn't even have a chance to try to convince them.

[Annie] We'll see.

Annie murmurs while she looks outside liking the place, she only hopes she likes the house as well.

Wanda parks the company car by the front gates, expecting a comment and is slightly disappointed when she doesn't get one. Actually she doesn't get a reaction whatsoever. She thinks that woman is too quiet, it's slightly disturbing.

Gemini sits in the back of Wanda's car and subtly watches Wanda's expressions in Wanda's review mirror. Seeing the expression on Wanda's face after she looks at Annie as they pull into the driveway of yet another house, Gemini has to try hard not to smile or start laughing at Wanda's expression.

Annie looks at the house in silence, she likes what she can see through the trees and the garden is magnificent, just what she had in mind. She opens the car door to go outside, this one she really had to see.

Wanda takes a deep sigh of relief, at least this time she was leaving the car. Maybe she'd be lucky and they'd like this one, she can't bring herself to keep doing this after lunch.

Annie takes a deep breath as the woman goes on and on about the house. She only wanted the woman stopped talking for a while, but knows it's impossible this one liked to hear the sound of her own voice, the only way is to ignore it.

Gemini hurries and gets out of the car and steps up to Annie before Annie can go any further.

[Gemini] You're kind of freaking her out.

Gemini murmurs softly.

[Annie] Obviously not enough, or she'd shut up for a while.

Annie murmurs back to Gemini.

[Annie] I can hardly hear myself thinking.

[Gemini] The more you freak her out, the more nervous she gets, the more... and faster I might add, she talks.

Gemini explains with a wry grin.

Annie shrugs indifferently looking around, if she liked the house she'd pass that woman to Dylan and wouldn't need to put up with her anymore.

[Annie] I could always gag her.

Annie murmurs to Gemini like she meant it.

[Gemini] Yeah, that'd be smart.

Gemini mutters.

Wanda keeps talking until she looks back and realizes she's talking to herself those two were talking by the car. She stops surprised for a moment, then she sighs, they were doing it again.

[Annie] Come on, let's get going the sooner we see the house the sooner we get rid of her.

Annie grumbles watching the woman waiting for them.

Gemini snorts trying to hold in her laughter and nods.

[Gemini] Alright, let's go.

Annie studies the house while she walks to the front door.

[Annie] I kind of like it, even though it's too dark.

[Gemini] It can be repainted.

Gemini points out.

[Annie] I suppose, though it doesn't look that bad.

Annie shrugs as she begins to walk again. The woman is by the door waiting for them and saying something Annie didn't pay attention to.

Gemini shrugs indifferently.

Annie almost gasps in surprise when she walks in the door and takes a look around, she'd never imagined it would look so good.

[Annie] Not bad, not bad at all.

Annie murmurs moving her head from one side to the other.

[Gemini] Wow.

Gemini mutters in surprise as she walks in the room.

Wanda smiles pleased with herself, at least now she'd gotten a reaction from both of them.

Annie takes a few steps to take a better look at the dinning room.

[Annie] Could be bigger, but I'm not expecting to entertain much so...

Annie shrugs moving to open the door.

[Annie] Also like the kitchen.

Annie nods while she goes through the door.

[Annie] Cozy.

[Gemini] It's big enough. That's for sure.

Gemini mutters.

Annie opens the kitchen door to take a look outside, she smiles when she sees a small pound in the garden.

[Annie] Don't tell me that's the pool.

[Gemini] That won't work.

Gemini mutters.

Wanda is surprised for a moment, for a moment she thought the other woman was joking but it couldn't be it, could it? She shakes her head as she replies.

[Wanda] Of course not, this way please.

Wanda goes through the garden while she explains there's also a way inside the house.

Annie looks around nodding approvingly, she really liked this garden.

[Wanda] This is the pool.

Wanda says as she opens a door as if it wasn't obvious enough.

Gemini nods.

[Gemini] That's workable.

[Annie] Oh, finally found something big enough for you?

Annie asks Gemini smiling amused.

[Annie] Good.

[Gemini] It's better than the other ones.

Gemini shrugs.

Wanda smiles again, apparently they're liking this house, she almost sighs in relief, finally.

[Wanda] So let's take a look at the bedrooms?

[Annie] Sure. I'd also like to see the living room.

Annie says while they follow the woman down the corridor.

[Wanda] The living room is right there.

Wanda explains when they get to the lobby.

[Annie] Looks nice.

Annie nods moving to the entrance, maybe she'd have to change a few things though, she thinks to herself.

Gemini shrugs. The house was grand enough in appearance. But definitely not to her taste. A little... old fashioned.

Wanda suggests they move to the rooms after a while, starting with the second floor and moves to the stairs.

[Wanda] The main room is upstairs.

Wanda explains while they move up.

Annie nods looking around as she climbs the stairs, the walls looked too dark maybe she'd need to have it repainted after all.

Wanda turns right at the tops of the stairs and leads them to the main room.

Annie is surprised for a moment, then amused when she thinks she doesn't need to leave her room to practice with her sword if she doesn't feel like it.

[Annie] That's big.

Annie nods, not finding any other word for it.

Wanda nods in agreement.

[Wanda] That's the biggest bedroom, the other 7 are smaller.

Gemini shrugs indifferently.

[Wanda] Of course not all of them have a bathroom and the previous family used the other rooms for something else. They had a small library and a...

Wanda thinks for a moment, she'd not sure how they used the other rooms.

[Wanda] Computer room I think.

[Annie] Is there still a library? Or they took the books?

Annie asks suddenly interested.

[Wanda] They took the books, sorry.

Wanda says as she proceeds in showing them the rooms.

[Annie] No problem. She's starting a library anyway.

Annie says as she nods at Gemini.

Gemini rolls her eyes.

[Gemini] I have a Library. Back in Fargo.

[Annie] So do I, back in Europe. So what?

Annie asks thinking, her books won't work in here, most of them aren't in English.

[Gemini] So, what about the rest of the bedrooms? Which one is the next biggest?

Gemini asks Wanda speaking up.

[Wanda] That's downstairs, with a view of the garden.

Wanda explains leaving the main room.

[Wanda] It belonged to the former owner's mother, who had locomotion problems and couldn't go up and down the stairs all the time.

Wanda goes on explaining as they move to the stairs.

Annie nods, it would please her Gemini picked that one so she wouldn't pass her door all the time, it made her jumpy, but she's not going to try to convince her.

Gemini follows Wanda as the walk down a hallway, that was actually fairly near the pool Gemini could tell. Her nose was well trained to pick up the slightest hint of chlorine.

[Wanda] Here we are, it's not so big as the main room, but still big enough.

Wanda says as she stops at the entrance of the room.

[Gemini] It's big enough... needs some furniture or something but...

Gemini trials off with a shrug.

[Annie] And the pool is just down the corridor, what more can you ask, right?

Annie teases Gemini with a small smile.

[Gemini] Exactly.

Gemini grins.

[Annie] Besides it's not only this room that needs some furniture, there's a few things I'd change here.

Annie shrugs looking around the room and the view out the window.

[Wanda] Yes, I think the owners took their favorite pieces, which is only natural.

Wanda nods looking from one woman to the other.

[Gemini] I like it.

Gemini says with a shrug, looking over at Annie.

[Annie] Yes, so do I. We'll take it.

Annie tells Wanda turning around from window.

Wanda nods with a sigh of relief, finally she'd managed to get them a house they liked.

[Annie] So send a copy of the contract to doctor Robinson so he can take a look and then we can do business.

Annie tells Wanda as she walks to the door.

[Annie] Let's try to do it still today? Maybe? I want to get out of that hotel as soon as possible.

Wanda nods doubtfully as she follows Annie out of the house.

[Wanda] We can try but I don't think you'll get a loan so fast. Banks take longer than that.

Annie side glances at Wanda slightly surprised.

[Annie] Just send the contract to Dylan, if he approves it, money will show up.

Annie says with an indifferent shrug.

Wanda blinks in surprise, she never imagined those two didn't need a loan to buy this house. She nods in agreement after a moment.

[Wanda] Well, I think the earliest the title company can be ready is tomorrow, but I see no reason why we can't have everything ready by then.

[Annie] Good.

Annie nods approvingly.

[Annie] Then we can move.

Gemini just rolls her eyes. Annie obviously wanted to sleep in more.

[Wanda] So if there's nothing else you want to see, I can take you back to the hotel.

Wanda suggests, relieved she'd done this sale faster than expected.

[Annie] No, I think I saw everything I wanted to see for now.

Annie says as she walks to the door.

[Wanda] Alright.

Wanda waits they leave the house, locks the door and leads them back to her car.

Gemini suppresses both a laugh and grin at both Wanda's and Annie's reactions and trails behind both as they had back to the car.

CHRONICLES / FALLING STAR Part 30
« Last post by 22639 on February 26, 2012, 03:07:24 am »
The parts of Duncan MacLeod and Richie Ryan are temporarily being understudied.

Duncan feels someone touching his shoulder and he opens his eyes. One of the female Flight Attendants is leaning over him and smiling. She says, "sorry to wake you, sir. But the Captain has turned on the Fasten Your Seat-belt sign and we're getting ready to land."

Duncan: Oh. Sorry. Thank you.

Duncan sputters...trying to clear the fog of sleep from his brain. The Flight Attendant smiles and moves to wake up another passenger. Duncan fastens his seat belt and looks out of the window at the landscape below. When he had left for Paris he had hoped that he would return under better circumstances than the ones he is returning to. When he had left Joe and Zoe off at the Paris Airport, he had figured he'd better be ready should he get a call telling him he needed to come home. So when he got back to the barge he packed a suitcase and set it by the door. That phone call came late the night before and he was on the first available flight back to the states. His thoughts went to Joe and Zoe. Even though everyone knew that this time would come knowing something is going to happen and dealing with it when it happens are two different things.

Richie gets as close to the doors of the Air France terminal as he can and pulls up to the curb. He keeps the motor running and turns on his emergency flashers then begins watching the terminal doors for MacLeod.

Duncan 's plane lands and taxis to the boarding gate...pulling up to the boarding tunnel. The Captain thanks everyone for flying Air France and a Flight Attendant opens the exit door causing a slight change of pressure in the cabin and Duncan has to yawn to open up his ears. He gets up, takes his carry on out of the overhead compartment and follows the other passengers out of the plane. He smiles and thanks the Flight Attendants as he passes them at the door and, once in the boarding tunnel, picks up his pace and heads for the baggage claim area. He retrieves his suitcase and makes his way through the crowded terminal. As he approaches the terminal doors he feels the buzz of another Immortal.

Richie feels an Immortal buzz and opens his door...getting out and standing where Mac will be able to see him.

Duncan walks through the doors of the terminal and looks around. He sees Richie standing by his car...waving frantically and he waves back. He hurries through the maze of people scurrying in and out of cars.

Richie: Hey, Mac. Right on time for a change.

Richie says then gets back into his car and reaches across to the passenger door and shoves it open for Mac.

Duncan grabs the door when it flings open and tosses his suitcase and briefcase in the back seat then gets in and fastens his seat belt.

Duncan: Thanks for picking me up, Richie.

Duncan says after he closes his door and settles in for the ride home.

Richie: Not a problem, Mac. I'm glad for something I can finally do to help. I know that you guys have gone through this before....more than once....and are used to it but I just feel so dammed helpless. I almost hate going to the bar anymore because I hate seeing how sad Joe is. It seems like it was just yesterday he was floating on cloud 9 because he and Zoe had just gotten married.

Richie says sadly as he pulls away from the curb and maneuvers through traffic to the airport exit.

Duncan: Like I told you once before.....you never get used to losing someone you care for. No matter how many times you go through it. And it never gets any easier.

Duncan says quietly as he watches the scenery go by.

Duncan: Sometimes I think it is harder to watch a friend go through it than to go through it yourself.

Duncan says thoughtfully.

Richie: Yeah. Methos told you Zoe has gone blind....right?

Richie asks as he pulls onto the freeway and heads for the city and MacLeod's loft.

Duncan: Yeah. When he called last night.

Duncan says and shakes his head.

Duncan: Makes you wonder how much more both of them can take.

Duncan muses.

Richie: Joe's been a rock but you can see it in the back of his eyes. Back behind the diluted cheery bravado he shows to his bar customers. I don't think I could be that strong. I'd be a total wreck.

Richie says shaking his head.

Duncan: Nah. I think....if the woman you loved was going through this you would be strong for her when she needed you to be strong. I've seen you in times when someone was relying on you and you were strong for them.

Duncan says, remembering the mortal girl, Laura, and the Immortal, Mikey, and the way Richie had taken the lead and been there for them.

Richie: Yeah....well.....that was different. That didn't involve watching the woman I love die from a terminal illness that can't be cured and barely treated.

Richie says, honestly. He gets off the freeway and starts maneuvering through the mid-day city traffic.

Duncan stares out of the window on the passenger door without seeing the buildings zipping past them. His thoughts are of his friend Joe and how he can best help him. And of Zoe and he tries to imagine how she must be feeling. Most Mortals.....those with the ability to have empathy for their fellow humans....can some what imagine having a terminal illness.....knowing, in advance, that their time was short....because they knew that they would all die someday anyway. But it was harder for an Immortal to imagine dying slowly because they couldn't get illnesses that could slowly kill them. His thoughts were also of Methos and how Zoe's situation was affecting him. Whether it had brought back some painful memories. He rode the rest of the way to his loft in thoughtful silence.

Richie pulled into the alley along side of the building MacLeod's loft and Dojo were in and parked his car.

Richie: Here, ya go, Mac. Home sweet home.

Richie announces.

Richie: Want me to help you with your stuff?

Richie offers, even though he knows that Mac is capable of hauling one suitcase and a brief case up a flight of stairs.

Duncan: No. I got.

Duncan says as he unfastens his seat belt and opens the door. He puts one foot out of the car and turns to look at Richie.

Duncan: To be honest....I think I need to be alone for a while, Richie. You don't mind, do you?

Duncan says hoping that Richie doesn't get his feelings hurt over this.

Richie: Oh. Sure, Mac. No problem. The Dojo's closed today so I'll just go on home. Just make me a promise.

Richie says looking directly into MacLeod's eyes.

Duncan: What's that?

Duncan says, quirking an eyebrow, curiously.

Richie: Call me if you need anything. I mean....really. I'm just a phone call away.

Richie says with a reassuring smile.

Duncan looks at Richie and is reminded just how much he has grown up since the first time they met. He smiles and nods his head.

Duncan: You got it, partner.

Duncan gets out of the car, grabs his bags from the back seat and closes the car door. He pats the roof of the car and holds his hand against the passenger door window as a wave goodbye, then heads up the stairs and into the building.

Richie smiles proudly, hearing MacLeod call him partner. He waves and pulls out of the alley and heads for his own apartment.

Duncan doesn't bother to unpack. He simply tosses his suitcase on the foot of his bed, sets his brief case on the floor at the foot of his bed and flops down on his back...sprawling across the width of the bed. He stares for awhile at his ceiling then drifts off to sleep.

CHRONICLES / HALF MOON RISING Part 22
« Last post by Cyberfox277 on February 23, 2012, 10:23:54 pm »
*** Next morning – 7 Am***

Gemini sighs and gives up pacing in her room. Annie had moved the two of them to a different hotel the night before and to a two bedroom suite at the Hampton Inn, as opposed to the Fairmont downtown that they had been staying at. The Hampton, much to Gemini's disgust, had no pool. Annie had told her, that had been done on purpose. Something about not wanting to work around a swim schedule and that Gemini would be fine until they left the hotel, which would be of as short a duration as possible. Gemini sighs again and goes to the bedroom door. To hell with it. She is going to watch some TV. Gemini walks out and plops herself down on the couch grabbing the remote and turns the TV on. She does try to keep the volume quiet for politeness sake, but she was bored.

Annie wakes up with a startle when she hears the distant sound of the TV, she opens her eyes and takes a look at her watch. She sighs exasperated when she checks the time, the kid was watching TV at 7 am? She takes a deep breath and covers her head trying to go back to sleep. After a while of twisting and turning on the bed, she finds out she can't go back to sleep. She gives up completely and throws her blanket away angrily before she gets out of bed.

[Annie] Damn, why didn't I just leave while there was still time? Austria and the convent and solitude sound better and better every time I think about it.

Annie murmurs while she gets her robe and puts it on. She walks to the door of her bedroom to take a shower, opens the door and stares at Gemini coldly.

[Annie] I bet you're just doing that to **** me off.

Annie grumbles while she walks to the bathroom.

[Gemini] What?

Gemini asks jumping in surprise.

[Gemini] I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you.

Gemini says softly.

[Annie] Then you shouldn't put that rattle on at 7 am.

Annie side glances at her angrily before she closes the bathroom door.

[Gemini] Sorry. But I didn't have anything else to do!

Gemini calls to Annie though the bathroom door.

[Annie] How about sleeping? People sleep at 7 am, you know?

Annie grumbles before she walks in the shower. She shakes her head disbelievingly as she turns on the water, after being awake until so late last night, the last thing she'd imagined was to be up so early.

[Gemini] Not when they're used to being up at 5am.

Gemini mutters and turns back to the TV, with the intention of getting in the shower when Annie was done. She hadn't done that, because she'd known that that WOULD wake Annie up.

Annie begins to relax under the water, the shower is making her feel better, she knows she has a long day ahead. After she's done she just stays under the tap without moving a little longer than necessary just enjoying the feeling of the water over her skin. She sighs as she turns off the water and wraps herself on a towel. She uses another towel to wrap her hair and picks up her stuff before she's ready to leave.

[Annie] Maybe you could start getting ready instead of wasting your time with that? I'm going to call the realtor and see if she can come earlier than planned.

Annie tells Gemini while she passes her moving to the bedroom.

[Gemini] Was just waiting for you to finish.

Gemini says bounding up and heading for the shower.

[Annie] Yes, I asked for a suite with two bathrooms but it wasn't available.

Annie says with a shrug before she goes inside her bedroom.

[Gemini] They even have one?

Gemini mutters as she steps into the bathroom and closes the door behind her. She turns the shower on and gets ready to step in. Apart from her morning warm up in a pool her shower was one of her favorite parts to the day.

Annie hesitates about what to dress for a minute, until she shrugs and goes for her usual black jeans and sweater, she wasn't going to dress up to take a look at some houses, let the realtor think what she wanted.

Gemini steps into the shower and smiles as the warm/hot water washes over her. Gemini stands there for a few moments, then begins the process of washing.

Annie walks out of her bedroom fully dressed and sits on the couch to wait for Gemini so they can order breakfast. She thinks what she'd like to eat while she waits.

Gemini turns the water off and steps out of the shower, grabbing a towel and quickly drying herself. Once dry with hair not dripping, Gemini grabs a second towel to wrap around her, then exits the bathroom heading for her bedroom.

Annie looks up the moment she hears the bathroom door open.

[Annie] What do you want for breakfast? So I can order it while you get dressed.

Annie asks absentmindedly still thinking what she wants.

[Gemini] Mmm....

Gemini says pausing a moment thinking.

[Gemini] How 'bout a mushroom and cheese omelette, hash-browns and bacon?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] Hmm, I think I like that.

Annie nods with a smile as she jumps to her feet.

[Annie] Let's go for it. Coffee?

[Gemini] No. No coffee, but I'd love orange juice.

Gemini says brightly.

[Annie] Okay.

Annie nods again while she walks to the phone.

Gemini grins, then goes into her bedroom, shutting the door softly behind her, so she could change her clothes.

Annie orders their breakfast, then comes back to the couch. She checks her watch still too early to call the realtor, she'd probably only be there at nine though she's going to try earlier just in case.

Gemini dresses in khaki shorts and a blousy emerald green shirt. Gemini runs a comb through her hair then leaves the bedroom to return to the bathroom to dry her hair.

[Gemini] Breakfast on its way?

Gemini asks as she passes through the living room.

[Annie] Yes, should be here soon.

Annie nods checking her watch again.

[Annie] Maybe I should start trying at 8:30.

Annie murmurs to herself.

[Gemini] 8:30 for what?

Gemini asks entering the bathroom, but leaving the door open. After all, it's not as though privacy is needed for drying ones hair.

[Annie] Call the realtor? I'd like to get this done in the morning since I'm awake.

Annie explains while she thinks she wouldn't mind leaving the hotel, she liked the other one a lot more.

[Gemini] Oh. Yeah. The sooner the better I guess.

Gemini says with a shrug as she grabs the hotel provided blow dryer and turns it on.

Annie makes a face at the noise but doesn't say anything, the kid wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. She takes a deep breath wondering what it will be like to live with another person, she'd lived alone for almost a hundred years now.

Gemini shuts the dryer off after just a couple of short minutes. She loved the fact that her hair dried so quickly. Grabbing the brush she'd brought into the bathroom with her, Gemini runs it through her hair then uses it to pull her hair up into a pony tail and secures it the band she had around her wrist.

Annie gets to her feet when there's a knock on the door and a voice says room-service. She opens the door to let the hotel employee enter and tells him to put in on the table.

[Gemini] Oh, Yum.

Gemini says coming out of the bathroom and seeing breakfast being laid out onto the table.

[Annie] Yes, smells good, I'm glad you have some ideas once in a while.

Annie chuckles softly while she pulls a chair to sit down.

[Annie] Even if it's just once in a while.

Annie adds teasingly.

[Gemini] Hey! That's not fair! I have lots of good ideas... You just haven't known me long.

Gemini says as she comes over to the table then pulls out a chair across from Annie and plops down, tucking her left leg up under her.

Annie waits until the hotel employee leaves to tell Gemini.

[Annie] Yes, but running to that back alley wasn't one of them.

[Gemini] Hey! I tried to make it out to the street, but he cut me off!

Gemini protest, not adding that she'd also tried to get back to the lobby, and he'd cut her off from that too.

Annie rolls her eyes and sighs while she shakes her head.

[Annie] Of course he did, so would any Immortal after your head with that convenient alley where he could kill you.

[Gemini] Yeah, well, just to defend my action, I did try to get to the lobby before going into that alley. But he had me cut off in the hotel proper, and then when I went down the stairwell, it was jammed going to the lobby area and I didn't have time to try and force it, 'cause he was almost on me.

Gemini defends her actions.

[Annie] Well next time make some noise, yell, knock on the doors, make everybody come to the corridor to see what's going on. Looking at you and him who do you think they'd believe? Besides that would make him go away, most Immortals, not to say all, don't do anything with an audience.

Annie says while she picks up her fork and knife to start eating.

[Gemini] Yeah... I know that, NOW.

Gemini sighs, picking up the ketchup bottle and carefully putting ketchup across her hash-browns.

[Annie] Besides making noise seems to be your specialty anyway.

Annie adds as an after thought.

[Gemini] Hey, I at least I waited until 7 before I turned the TV on. I've been up since 6.

Gemini protests.

Annie shakes her head, taking a deep breath, living with this kid was going to be "fun".

[Annie] I'm glad I know that before we pick rooms, yours is going to be as far away as possible from mine.

Annie says hoping the realtor would get them a really big house.

[Gemini] Hey. Six is sleeping in! Normally I'm up by five so I can be in the pool by 5:30.

Gemini says, with a grin.

[Annie] Fine, you can get up at 4 am for all I care, I just don't want you to wake me up as well.

Annie shrugs indifferently.

Gemini laughs.

[Gemini] Not a morning person are you?

[Annie] Depends.

Annie shrugs again.

[Gemini] On what?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] On whether I can sleep at night or not.

Annie explains hoping the kid wouldn't ask for details.

[Gemini] Bad dreams?

Gemini guesses softly.

[Annie] Hmm yes, sometimes. Don't we all have nightmares sometimes?

Annie shrugs trying to make it sound like it's nothing, her nightmares were improving anyway.

[Gemini] Yeah.

Gemini murmurs, thinking of her own nightmares. Nightmares from her accident, from her parents...

[Annie] So we don't need to sleep that close as long as we have a decent alarm.

Annie gasps when she finally remembers what she forgot to ask her solicitor.

[Annie] Damn, I knew I'd forgotten something.

[Gemini] What'd you forget?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] I forgot to ask Dylan to get me a good security firm, I doubt the house will have a state-of-the-art alarm.

Annie sighs taking a look at her watch.

[Annie] I suppose I'll have to call him again.

[Gemini] Umm... That's what David does.

Gemini says hesitantly.

Annie side glances at Gemini surprised.

[Annie] Really? Besides being a jerk?

Gemini blushes slightly.

[Gemini] Yeah... he works for his teacher who started it... I know they do all sorts of security.

Gemini shrugs.

Annie shakes her head with a smile.

[Annie] I certainly hope he's better in his work than trying to be funny.

[Gemini] I've gathered so... He used to be a cop, before he died the first time.

Gemini says softly.

[Annie] I suppose I can give them a call after we get a house.

Annie shrugs indifferently.

[Annie] I can always look for someone else if I don't like what they propose.

[Gemini] Think about it. They're both immortal, who better to know what security Immortals need than they do?

Gemini says, then suddenly giggles.

[Gemini] Hey, maybe they know a priest who can turn the grounds of the house to Holy Ground.

[Annie] I'm not so sure I want to meet that guy on Holy Ground. That one I wouldn't mind killing.

Annie murmurs to herself, thinking it would be one less scum bag walking around on the streets.

[Gemini] But others?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] Others?

Annie side glances at Gemini slightly surprised, then she shrugs.

[Gemini] I dunno... other Immortals.

Gemini shrugs.

[Annie] Look kid, I don't go around looking for a fight, but if I get challenged I kill them, that easy.

[Gemini] Yeah....

Gemini says slowly.

[Gemini] That doesn't do me much good.

[Annie] Hmm, I'd say nothing will until you learn how to fight.

Annie gives Gemini a small smile as she repeats.

[Annie] That easy.

[Gemini] What's easy? Running and hiding or fighting?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] Running and hiding only works up to a certain point, then you'll have to fight.

Annie says taking a deep breath.

[Annie] It's not like most Immortals give up their prey easily, you know?

[Gemini] Yeah. Figured that one out the hard way.

Gemini says.

[Annie] Besides running away from a hunter is a really bad idea, those guys only understand one thing, hmm two, lead and steel.

Annie says as she pushes her empty plate away from her.

[Annie] And only steel works for good, so...

[Gemini] Yeah... Still doesn't do me any good, right now.

Gemini points out, reminding Annie that she can neither fight, nor has a gun.

[Annie] Yes, maybe we should start that way.

Annie thinks for a minute considering the options.

[Annie] You don't have anything against guns, right?

[Gemini] I'm from North Dakota...

Gemini points out slowly.

[Gemini] If there are any states more gun happy than North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana or Wyoming... I've never heard of them.

Gemini grins.

[Gemini] So, no. I don't have any issues with guns.

[Annie] Oh, good.

Annie takes a deep sigh of relief, before she smiles.

[Annie] For a moment I thought you were one of those pacifists.

Annie shakes her head amused while she thinks being stuck with an Immortal pacifist would be a little bit too much, she'd be on the first plane back to Europe.

[Gemini] No. I even know how to shoot... a little.. well... rifles anyway. I've been pheasant hunting a couple of times.

Gemini says, with a slight smile.

[Annie] Fine, I'll get you a gun once we settle this house thing. At least that will stall him a little.

Annie nods hoping the kid wouldn't need to use it.

[Gemini] Okay... Hopefully the need won't ever come up.

Gemini mutters.

[Annie] Yes, but if he gets you alone, shoot him and get away from him as fast as you can, I don't know how long that will keep him down.

Annie shrugs and gets to her feet.

[Annie] You can't guess it just by looking at another Immortal.

[Gemini] But it should at least give me a chance to get away for the mean time, right?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] Yes, if your aiming is good. We'll work on that.

Annie says as she checks her watch again.

[Annie] I wonder if she's already at her office.

[Gemini] Call and check. If not you can always call back.

Gemini says with a shrug.

Annie moves to the phone and dials the number Dylan has given her on his email. She sighs when she gets an answering machine and disconnects without bothering to leave a message.

[Annie] Still too early.

Annie shrugs as she walks to the couch.

[Gemini] That sucks.

Gemini sighs getting up, and moving from the table to one of the chairs.

[Annie] Well it's not like she's expecting us this early, we were supposed to see the houses during the afternoon.

Annie sighs as she stands up impatiently and moves to the window to take a look outside.

[Gemini] Oh.

Gemini says softly.

[Annie] Let's hope she can move it to the morning.

Annie thinks for a moment and smiles.

[Annie] Probably, since she's expecting to make a big sale here.

[Gemini] I'm sure that'll depend on if the houses are vacant or not. If they are I bet she can. If not... I bet not.

Gemini shrugs.

[Annie] They better be, I want to move as soon as possible.

Annie sighs thinking she didn't like this hotel at all.

[Gemini] That's obvious.

Gemini mutters to herself.

Annie turns her back to the window, the view isn't that great anyway.

[Annie] Maybe I should have left a message, then she'd call when she got there.

[Gemini] So call back in fifteen minutes. Maybe she'll get in early.

Gemini suggests absently.

[Annie] Yeah, might as well wait now.

Annie sighs as she moves to the table to get more coffee.

[Gemini] Well... Once a place is gotten, I'll need to look into getting a vehicle for myself.

Gemini sighs.

[Annie] Oh yeah, another thing I've forgotten.

Annie nods with a sigh.

[Annie] I can always call Dylan again.

[Gemini] It can wait... for a bit. I just don't fancy taking a cab everywhere...

Gemini shrugs.

[Gemini] Forever.

Annie nods again in agreement.

[Annie] Yes, you should have one. Not that I expect you to use it much anyway if you like the pool.

Annie adds with a smirk.

Gemini rolls her eyes.

[Gemini] I don't spend my whole life in the pool.

[Annie] No? Could have fooled me.

Annie says chuckling softly.

[Gemini] I don't spend my whole life in the pool! Just.. a fifth of it.. Which is a lot but...

Gemini protests.

[Annie] To spend more time in the pool you'd have to eat and sleep there.

Annie shakes her head smiling amused as she puts down the cup after drinking the coffee, and walks to the phone again.

[Annie] Better try again.

[Gemini] No, not really.

Gemini says with a grin.

[Gemini] Oh, when did you want to try David? Or did you want me to do that?

[Annie] David?

Annie turns her head to look back wondering what Gemini is talking about.

[Gemini] For Security... at the house?

Gemini reminds Annie.

[Annie] Well I need to get a house first, no?

Annie raises an eyebrow at Gemini for a moment, then turns to pick up the phone.

[Gemini] Yeah... suppose.

Gemini shrugs.

Annie calls the realtor again and this time she gets an answer. She asks to talk with Mrs. Wanda Meyer and is lucky enough it's the woman she's talking to and she can come right away. She hangs up the phone with a smile.

[Annie] She'll be here in about 20 minutes.

[Gemini] Okay.

Gemini says with a smile.

[Gemini] What are the chances of finding something today?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] Don't know, I have no idea if they have many houses for sale here or not.

Annie shrugs as she moves to the bedroom to get her things.

[Annie] I walked around here a bit, but never noticed it before. I wasn't planning to buy a house here anyway.

[Gemini] Doubt they have much downtown. Most bigger cities don't have much besides apartments downtown.

Gemini points out.

[Annie] It can be a little far away, that's why I need the car. If it's not that far I rather walk, helps to keep in shape.

Annie says while she moves the things she'd going to need from her handbag to her coat.

[Gemini] Uh huh.

Gemini says, thinking she herself, didn't need to walk to keep in shape.

[Annie] Not that I really need it, everywhere I go I get at least one idiot kid challenging me.

Annie grumbles unhappily.

[Annie] Times change but some things never change at all.

[Gemini] Huh?

Gemini asks.

[Annie] Men still see you as an easy prey, and it's not just Immortals.

Annie sighs remembering that jerk that got her in jail. She checks her sword in the lining of her coat and carries the coat back to the living room, ready to leave when the woman who's going to show them the houses arrives.

[Gemini] Huh?

Gemini repeats, still not getting what Annie was talking about.

Annie looks at Gemini and smiles seeing her face.

[Annie] I just remembered I don't need to keep in shape walking.

[Gemini] Oh... fighting?

Gemini asks softly.

[Annie] Yes, fighting.

Annie nods with a sad sigh.

[Annie] Like I've said some things never change.

[Gemini] Course not. That would make sense.

Gemini smiles.

[Annie] Yes, too much to ask, right?

Annie smiles back at Gemini.

[Gemini] Yeah. That would mean, all men would have to evolve beyond the barbarism.

Gemini sighs.

Annie shakes her head thinking the times she'd lived through.

[Annie] If you live long enough you'll see mankind making the same stupid mistakes over and over again.

[Gemini] Uh... don't have to live long to see that. Just have to look at the history books. Anyone can see that history is cyclical.

Gemini points out with a wry grin.

[Annie] Yes, but I meant things that aren't mentioned in history books, or are only briefly mentioned.

Annie shrugs moving to the table and hesitating while she thinks if she should drink more coffee or not.

Gemini shrugs.

[Gemini] Well, that would make sense, wouldn't it? If the big events are cyclical and repeated then the little ones would have to be too, right?

[Annie] I suppose.

Annie nods while she pours some coffee in her cup.

[Gemini] Shall we aah... just go wait in the lobby or something? In case she gets there early?

Gemini asks, standing up.

[Annie] Yeah, why not?

Annie drinks the coffee and walks to the door.

[Gemini] Okay, let me grab my stuff.

Gemini says quickly walking to her room.

[Annie] We're not doing anything here anyway.

Annie says with a shrug while she checks her pockets to see if she's taking the key card.

[Gemini] Okay. I'm good.

Gemini says, as she comes back into the living room with a small purse bag slung over her shoulder.

[Annie] Let's go then.

Annie opens the door and walks to the corridor.

[Annie] I hope we can get a nice house.

CHRONICLES / Overdue Payment (complete)
« Last post by 22639 on February 23, 2012, 04:42:09 pm »
Nikki wanders through the rows of vendors selling everything from the contents of someone's garage to fresh produce and baked goods.  Old bicycles, lamps, area rugs, gaudy velvet paintings....all once someone's treasures...now just dust gatherers.  Every once in a while, Nikki stops and examines a display, asks a vendor about an item on his table filled with old nick-nacks or squeezes a loaf of fresh bread or smells a piece of fresh fruit.  She loves spending Saturday mornings among these aisles of the Seacouver Open Air Market and Swap Meet...the aromas...the sights...the sounds....the whole atmosphere. It reminds her of going to the market with her mother when she was but a lass.  She even has the whole excursion down to a science.  She starts at the row farthest from the parking area and slowly walks up one aisle and down the next, making sure to look at each table.  When she sees something that interests her she stops and examines it...asks whatever questions she has and...if there doesn't seem to be any other interested parties (and depending on how interested she is in the item)....either remembers where the item is so she can come back to it and if it is still there...purchase it.  Or ask the vendor to hold it for her.  Once she has walked through every aisle and is confident she has seen everything offered...she then goes back through and purchases the items she has either had set aside or took the chance they would still be there.  That way she doesn't end up hauling a growing load around that usually included something fragile, heavy or an awkward shape.  She has been coming to the Open Air Market for a couple of years and has never left without purchasing at least one item and during the Spring and Summer she always stocks up on fresh produce...especially the Summer fruits (like peaches, cherries, strawberries, plums, mangoes, cantaloupe and watermelon.).

Jeffery Kerby crosses the Seacouver City limits and sees a large billboard advertising the Seacouver Open Air Market and Swap Meet and decides that is where he wants to stretch his legs after the long drive.  He follows the directions on the billboard and when he arrives at the event he parks his van and gets out.  He stretches his stiff muscles, locks his van and heads into the Open Air Market.  Starting at the row of tables closest to the entrance he begins to leisurely stroll along the rows...stopping at almost every vendor to see what they are selling.  He buys an apple from one and continues browsing as he enjoys the juicy sweetness of the fresh fruit.

Nikki has finished wandering through the aisles and heads back to one of the nearest vendors she had stopped at earlier.  It was someone selling stuff that they had had in their attic and garage and they have the complete set of Edgar Allan Poe's stories and poems...leather bound and in pristine condition.  She picks up one of the books and opens it to a random page.  She reads, “For my own part, I have never had a thought which I could not set down in words  with even more distinctness than that with which I conceived it.  There is, however, a class of fancies of exquisite delicacy which are not thoughts and to which as yet I have found it absolutely impossible to adapt to language.  These fancies arise in the soul alas, how rarely, only at epochs of most intense tranquility when the bodily and mental health are in perfection, and at those mere points of time where the confines of the waking world blend with the world of dreams.  And so I captured this fance where all that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”  It isn't until the elderly man behind the table comes up to her and says, “Ahhh.  A Dream Within a Dream.  One of my favorites,” that she realizes she was reading the poem aloud and she blushes.  “I take it you're a Poe fan?”  The elderly man asks and Nikki nods.  “Have you heard this one?”  He asks and tilts his head back and closes his eyes.  “If I could see the sky above/ And my mind could be set free / As wild white horses reached the shore/ I'd stand alone and oversee/ And if the bridge before me burns/ Should I turn my eyes away/ And still the voices I can hear/ As clear to me as light of day/ I believed in my dreams/ Nothing could change my mind/ (Nothing could change my mind)/ Now I know what they mean/ How could I be so blind?/ Cold sands of time/ (Winds that blow cold as ice/ Sounds that come in the night)/ Shall hide what is left of me/ (Come from Paradise)/ I've been though times when no one cared/ (Words that were mine),” the elderly man recites from memory.

Nikki:“I've seen clouds in empty skies/ When one kind word meant more to me/ (Shall last as a memory)/ Than all the love in Paradise/ I believed in my dreams/ Nothing could change my mind/ (Nothing can save me now)/ 'Til I found what they mean/ Nothing can save me now/ (Through all my days are trances)/ (And all my nightly dreams are where thy gray eye glances)/ (And where thy footstep gleams)/ (In what ethereal dances, by what eternal streams)”

Nikki recites the end of the poem.

Nikki:To One In Paradise.  I love that one.  I love all of his stuff.

Nikki says with pride.

Nikki:How much for the set?

Nikki asks the elderly man.  He quotes her his price and she decides that it is definitely a bargain and purchases the set of books.  The man puts them in a shopping bag and hands them to Nikki and she thanks him and heads for the next vendor she had wanted to go back to.

Jeffery moves into the second aisle and stops at a vendor selling custom leather items such as wallets, knife sheaths, vests, jackets and hats and he examines one of the knife sheaths.

Nikki purchases a couple more items and decides that, with the books, her load is getting a bit heavy and she heads for the parking area.  As she passes the second aisle from the entrance she feels an Immortal buzz and looks at the faces of the people nearby.

Jeffery feels the buzz of another Immortal and looks around.  He doesn't see anyone looking particularly curious about the people in the aisle but he puts the knife sheath back on the vendor's table and begins to slowly walk down the aisle...looking at the faces of those he passes.

Nikki doesn't see anyone who is also looking around so she figures whoever it is is beyond her immediate sight which means they can't see her either so she picks up her pace and heads for her truck.  She places her purchases in the back seat of the cab and grabs her duster from where it is draped over the back of the passenger seat.  As she drags it over the drivers seat she simultaneously grabs her sword from the floor between the door and the seat and covers it with her coat. Using the door as a shield from anyone walking by, she puts on her coat and inconspicuously sheaths her sword into the lining of her coat.  She closes the door and locks her truck back and shoves her hands in the pockets of her coat.  With her head lowered she re-enters the Open Air Market and moves around behind the first row of vendors. She slips to the back of the Open Air Market and moves from the end of the vendor side of the first aisle to the cover of the building that housed Market office, the restrooms and a small snack bar.  Along side of the building is an area set up with a few picnic tables and a playground for the children.  The playground consists of a swing set, merry-go-round, sand box, jungle gym and a make shift tree house made on a free standing platform but built next to the trunk of one of the trees that shade the area so that when kids climb up to the platform they think they are actually in the tree.  The platform is about 20' above the ground with a Birdseye view of most of the Market.  The platform provides a coin operated telescope, a tire swing, a slide that winds around the trunk of the tree, and a couple of barrels to sit on.  Nikki climbs up the ladder to the platform.  She ignores the strange looks the kids already on the platform give her and she heads straight for the telescope.  She fishes a quarter out of her pocket and drops it into the coin slot, then looks through the telescope.  Slowly, she pans it over the entire Open Air Market.  She and the other Immortal are far enough apart that she no longer senses him....her....it.  She adjusts the strength of the telescope to its maximum and slowly moves back across the Market.

Jeffery comes to the end of the second aisle and heads up Aisle 3.  He no longer feels an Immortal buzz so he figures that whoever it was had either not felt him or just wanted to leave and avoid any trouble and the latter is just fine with him as he is enjoying the Swap Meet.  He moves on up the aisle and comes to a stop just short of the midway point when an item in a glass jewelry display case catches his attention.  He steps up to the vendor's table and looks into the case.  He flags down one of three ….what appear to be your basic housewives....women running that spot.  When she comes over to him he asks to see a small dagger.

Jeffery holds takes the sheathed dagger from the lady and slides the small dagger out of its sheath.

Jeffery: Where did you get this?

Jeffery asks the woman who explains that her oldest son had gone through a phase of collecting interesting and ornately designed knives and daggers and when he grew out of the phase he sold off most of his collection and this was the only one left.  She also explains that she doesn't know where her son had gotten the dagger.  She recognizes the look in Jeffery's eyes and says that he looks like he recognizes it.

Jeffery: Or one exactly like it.

Jeffery says with a nod.

Jeffery: My great grandfather had one that looked exactly like this one and he passed it down to my father.  It was supposed to come to me but it turned up missing after our garage was broken into and several things we had stored in the garage disappeared.  I was just a kid...like maybe 11 or 12.

Jeffery lies.  Then his attention is grabbed by another item in the same display case.  He slides the dagger back into its sheath and looks into the case at a large star shaped crystal...the kind that hung from large chandeliers.

The woman saw the direction of Jeffery's gaze and opened the display case and took out the crystal.  She informed Jeffery that it was genuine Australian crystal and that it used to be part of the huge chandelier that used to hang in the old ballroom of the now defunct Seacouver Arms Hotel.  She explained that her husband worked on the crew that demolished the old hotel and he had come home with a large box of pieces of the old chandelier then she handed it to Jeffery.  He stepped back out of the shadow of the canopy that covered the vendor's space and held the crystal up to the sunlight.  It reminded him of one that his mother used to have hanging in the front window of their house and he used to love watching the rainbows form on the walls and ceiling when the sunlight caught the crystal just right.

Nikki is just about to give up her telescopic search when she sees the sparkling reflection of something colorful in one of the aisles.  She adjusts the telescopes power and focuses it until she can clearly see a man standing near the middle of one of the aisles, holding up something that colorfully catches the sunlight.  She manages to squeeze a little more strength out of the limited telescope and gets it focused just as the man lowers the object in his hand and she gets a clear look at his face.  She doesn't need to feel any buzz to know that the man in the telescope's sights was an Immortal.  She stares at him through the lenses until the time that her quarter bought runs out and everything goes black.  She steps back away from the telescope and backs up to the farthest railing of the platform and leans on it.  She may not have seen the man's face for over 100 years and the time she did see him....over 100 years ago....was only once and briefly.  But she has no problem remembering who he was.  She closes her eyes and can see Kerby's cold and emotionless face leaning over her...his sword poised to make the final slash of their battle. In her 177 years....it was the closest Nikki had ever come to losing her head and she had never forgotten what she saw and felt during what should have been her final minutes on this earth.  The only reason she walks around today was because her deputy and the posse he had gathered together to hunt the Immortal she had beheaded came riding up to the cabin where their fugitive had been hiding out and Kerby had had the good sense to make himself scarce but not without vowing to Nikki that they would meet again someday and he would finish what he had started and she had never doubted it for a minute. She opens her eyes and hurries down the ladder.  Using the building as cover, she goes back the way she came, leaves the Market place, gets into her truck and drives out of the parking area.  She drives to Joe's Bar for a needed drink.

Jeffery purchases the small dagger and the crystal from the housewife, gets into his van and goes in search of the local police station so that he can check in with them, show them his credentials and let them know who he is after.
***2 Hours Later***
Nikki finishes her fourth tequila shot.  She thanks Mike and leaves him a generous tip then leaves the bar.  Instead of heading for any of her usual destinations (Methos', Amanda's or home) she heads for Stanley Park and follows the road to the tip of the island where she pulls into a turn out/parking area, gets out of her truck and follows the path that first drops down into a shallow gorge then follows the stream up to a majestic waterfall where the path ends.  She steps off of the path and walks down to the water's edge.  She sits down on a log and takes off her boots and socks and sticks her feet into the stream.  She closes her eyes and listens to the sound of the water cascading over the rocks of the waterfall to the small pond at its bottom.  After a few minutes the sounds of the nature that surrounds her have relaxed Nikki enough to clear her mind so she is able to think about her options and decide what she should do next.
